ADOI EXCLUSIVE: MALAYSIA RIDES INTO CANNES! |
The most exciting thing that has happened in Malaysia over the past 48 hours (apart from Dr Mahathir returning from Tokyo) has been a radical new project that breaks all known cinematic boundaries.

ADOI has learnt of a new TVC that’s poised to take on all Cannes contenders this year. A group of like-minded creative directors from Malaysia have put their heads together to champion a ‘Save the Trees’ campaign. Allegedly, a recluse Malaysian billionaire who recently bailed out a fledgling media house in the UK is bank-rolling this revolutionary idea with the theme: The Return of De Handkerchief!
Paper Towels kill the earth; the handkerchief will be our saviour. It’s amazing how much a handkerchief can do to save our earth.
Think about this for a second: if you pull out five hand paper towels to dry your hand every time in the toilet, the ‘footprint’ of a single Westerner would be one tree every day. Multiply that by European and American populations and suddenly it becomes clear why Brazilian rainforests disappear at the rate of a few thousand acres every week.
Now, imagine a horde of horsemen with handkerchiefs as flags galloping through cleared jungle terrain and the forest surges up behind them; with trees rising from the ground in their wake!
Reminiscent of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, this epic production with a cast of hundreds promises to be like no other.
An American multiple award-winning film director with a ponytail has been engaged to bring this concept to life in the rainforests of Tasek Bera (Malaysia's Loch Ness) in Pahang. Some scenes are also being planned to be shot at Pulau Batu Puteh (once the Singapore government approves).
Apparently the view of the sunset there is breathtaking.
All we can say at this point is that Bates Regional CD Sonal Dabral is on top of this. He has just bought a few boxes of designer handkerchiefs recently.
Stay tuned for details…. as ADOI is the official magazine for this project!
