In downtown Ho Chi Minh City, a wave of orange spreads through the street as passersby change their clothes to orange as if by magic.
This is the scene from Vietnamobile’s latest commercial created by independent brand communications agency Riverorchid who enlisted award-winning film director Patrick Hughes.
Hughes is one of Australia’s most awarded film-makers and has directed campaigns around the globe for brands such as Playstation, Xbox, Honda, BMW and Vodafone. His work is sought after for its rich cinematic elegance and detailed film craft.
“Patrick loves Vietnam,” said Riverorchid Regional Executive Creative Director Chris Howden, “and we were privileged to get him to work on this project here in Ho Chi Minh City, where the film was shot by Vietnamese production house Sud-Est.”
“The concept involves quite complicated choreography and special wardrobes. Essentially everyone’s clothes were cut and fixed with quick release pop-studs. We wanted the idea of people’s clothes changing to orange to be done for real, as opposed to by computer effects.”
“The idea for the spot came from the current success of Vietnamobile. The concept is a visual metaphor for the growth and change happening in Vietnam right now. Literally, millions of people are changing to this new network and Elizabete Fong, the Chief Executive Officer for Vietnamobile, wanted a spot to capture that feeling in a fresh, vibrant fashion,” said Howden.
“So far, millions of Vietnamese have been joining Vietnamobile to personally experience the exclusive privileges and innovative services that are only available from us. In less than one year of launch, we are pleased to bring to the consumers at large a convenient and best value mobile service customized to meet their daily communication needs. With this new impressive brand theme, we have embarked on a 360 degree integrated advertising campaign from TV commercial to outdoor billboard, print, radio, online and in-building POSM. We hope to welcome a new year filled with energy, happiness and a bright future, together with the ever-growing community of Vietnamobile subscribers”, said Elizabete Fong, Vietnamobile CEO.
The advertising campaign marks the start of a concerted effort by Vietnamobile to cement its ownership of the orange colour.
This is the second major campaign produced by Riverorchid for Vietnamobile as it continues to produce fresh, breakthrough work in the region.
Earlier in the year, Riverorchid successfully launched Green Cross Hand Sanitizer - again with talk-of-the town creative.
Riverorchid specializes in the Indochina region with offices in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Its Clients across the region include: AirAsia, ANZ Royal Bank, DKSH, Green Cross Vietnam, Hello, Imperial Tobacco, Intel, KFC, Manulife, Pepsi, United Pharma and Vietnamobile.
