Powered by PULSE, a recent online survey commissioned by Marketing magazine reveals some interesting insights about what Malaysians think with regards to the Obama fever sweeping the globe and its ramifications locally. Five questions were posed in the online survey across 1,000 respondents in market centres.  Do see any hope for change in the Malaysian political landscape as seen happening in the US recently? 66% of Malaysians were upbeat that there was hope for change in the Malaysian political landscape in line with events that were happening around the globe, especially in the US. ![]()  Do you believe the power of digital media (Web 2.0 tools, blogs, Twitter, websites, sms, Facebook) is effective in changing people's perceptions of national issues? A thumping 95% said that Digital Media had a key role in changing people's perceptions on national issues, and beyond. ![]()  Will the power of Youth play a big role in the next National Elections in 2012? Once again, a unanimous 96% agreed that youth will play a decisive role in the 2012 general elections! ![]()  Are the key political players of the day in touch with what the masses want? Call it brutal honesty, but 71% of respondents say our political players are detached from the realities of the day and what the electorate really wants. ![]()  Is Change an empty promise used by politicians? Yes, 83% of Malaysians are still not convinced that Change when articulated by politicians actually means the real thing. Rhetoric seems to be the order of the day. ![]()  When asked what were their main sources of daily news, they cited Newspapers (20%), Television (20%), Online newspapers (19%), Blogs (14%), Radio (13%), Word of Mouth (10%), RSS updates (3%) and Twitter 2%.  ![]() The study goes a long way to give us all a reality check on what going on in the marketplace today and debunks a lot of common media assumptions we have about media consumption habits. To ignore these changing trends, we do so at our own peril. Trackback(0)

Truth is, Malaysian politics hasn't matured much from the old days. Detachment from the powers that be and the man / woman on the street happens both ways. On the part of the powers that be, it is unfortunate that most often times, detachment is a means to maintaining a gap in order to institute a top-down system of administration. Divide and rule. Detach the man / woman on the street from the powers that be, detach the man / woman on the street from the other man / woman on the street. What does this all add up to? CONTROL. As for the man / woman on the street, detachment with the powers to be is an excuse for and response to what has been happening for the past 50 years as mentioned above. Conclusion? It always takes 2 hands to clap. It's about time the man / woman on the street woke up to reality and to quit complaining and pointing accusing fingers, start taking stock of the current situation and be proactive. Proactive... a trait that's sorely lacking in most Malaysians. Who is to blame? Everyone! |

| It is a good sign where people are more aware of the situation in Malaysia. There are also signs where politicians are aware they can't survive with previously used methods. The people need to speak up and stand for the truth. Only then, will evil and dirty politicians realise self-centredness will not work. The world has changed.Malaysia must also change in order to survive & trive, There is no room for extreme thoughtless & selfish views by the minority of leaders. The leaders that only think about themselves will surely by voted out. | |
