Nine leading speakers expound the opportunities and trends that lie ahead! About 250 media, advertising and marketing professionals packed the Sime Darby Convention Centre recently to listen to nine leading speakers traverse the new Media 2.0 landscape at the fifth Malaysian Media Congress (MMC) on August 7. MMC Chairman Harmandar Sngh in opening the day-long Congress declared, âBy embracing Web 2.0 technology, media professionals are moving to where consumer-controlled media is undoubtedly the new paradigm. If AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) was the mantra for Media 1.0, the catchphrases now swirl around Aggregation, Attention, Convergence, Engagement and Personalization.â This yearâs event journeyed through topical issues like Search Engine Marketing, Blog Monetisation, Branded Content, Online Research Opportunities, Mobile Advertising ROI, Social Media, Consumer Generated Content and more... Aegis Malaysia CEO and last yearâs MMC Lifetime Achievement Award winner Margaret Lim started off the proceedings with a âstate-of-the-nationâ address on the latest in the Malaysian media scene. This was followed with a peppy session by Peter Vogel Chief Strategy Officer of MEC Asia Pacific on âEarning Consumer Advocacy - How do Media Agencies evolve from contact planning to engagement strategy?â Friendster Inc. San Francisco Marketing Director Jeff Roberto shared his thoughts on âGlobal Trends in Social Networking: Traffic, Regions, and Monetizationâ. After the mid-morning coffee break Bob Chua, CEO of PULSE Group, gave the audience much to think about with his presentation titled âHow emerging media provides fresh consumer insightsâ. Continuing, the ever-charming MD of OMD Malaysia Andreas Vogiatzakis made the crowd sit up with this take on âConversational media - going Beyond the Bannerâ. MMCâs after-lunch speaker this year held the crowd in awe as 23-year old Timothy Tiah Co-founder of Nuffnang spoke candidly about Blog Monetisationâ. MNC Wireless CEO Jasmine Lee kept the pace going after that as she updated the industry on, âMobile Advertising & Gamingâ. Then, Worldwide Chief Creative Officer of WPPâS Digital BLUE Josh Sklar shared the latest on Search Engine Marketing. While in closing NestlĂ©âs Communications Director Khoo Kar Khoon presented the companyâs Malaysian journey with the mantra: Nutrition, Health & Wellness. This yearâs MMC Media Entrepreneur of the Year Award was presented to Sivananthan Krishnan of Trapper Media Services. The youthful Siva has successfully carved a market niche in the media specialisation industry by capturing the middle tier of the business. The Award was handed to him by his long-time mentor Aegis Malaysia CEO Margaret Lim in person!
