Jane Caro talks to Marketing about communicating with young people, how data is killing creativity (and legislation will too) and why marketers need to reconnect with their own humanity.
The ‘speaking topics’ list on Jane Caro’s bio runs for two pages. The author, novelist, lecturer, mentor, social commentator, columnist, workshop facilitator, speaker, broadcaster and award-winning advertising writer is in high demand by agencies and event organisers, and is a regular guest on a number of television programs, including The Gruen Transfer.
She is the only woman to have been the chair of judges of the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association, and is on the boards of Bell Shakespeare and the NSW Public Education Foundation.

What a week we passed through last week. It was pure grist to the mill. A scam ad, India’s largest ad agency in the eye of the storm, one of the best known global automobile brands running for cover, the sacking of one of India’s best-known Chief Creative Officers, and the Kardashian sisters thrown in for good measure…Phew!
Much has been written by us and our competitors. So let’s skip the details. Everybody is talking about right and wrong – and if Bobby Pawar and Vijay Simha Vellanki were sacrificed at the altar of convenience. Opinion is rightly divided. From what I know, Bobby, after “putting” in his papers, made a getaway to Gulmarg to cool off in cooler climes, far from the madding crowd.

JWT India Fires staff over controversial Ford ads |

JWT India has fired some employees over a series of advertisements to promote Ford Motor Co.'s F -0.68% Figo sub-compact car in India, which were slammed for being offensive and stirred up a huge controversy.
The ads, which depicted scantily-clad and gagged women, come at a particularly sensitive time for India. The country's parliament last week approved a bill that aims to strengthen sexual assault legislation, which came in response to the horrific gang rape and death of a young Indian woman in late December.

Twenty-Four Companies Set To Receive Malaysian Brand Certification |

A total of 24 companies are in various stages of being certified with the National Mark of Malaysian Brand, a mark that depicts quality, excellence and distinction of products and services by Malaysian companies.
SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd, Management System Certification Department Senior General Manager Parama Iswara Subramaniam said, the companies were ready to be audited.
"They have to go through stringent standard assessment processes, as we have already accepted their application and dates have been set," he told reporters here today.

That is the clear message from a panel discussion at the annual Malaysian Chief Marketing Officers (CMO) Conference on Thursday, which sought the answer to Is marketing now online marketing?
Celcom Axiata chief marketing officer Zalman Aefendy Zainal Abidin, one of the panellists, says Celcom has increased advertising spending in the areas where it knows will make the biggest impact.
