In a grand round-off to a brilliant year, media communications agency GO Communications has plastered its founder and legendary public relations man Michael De Kretser across almost 100 billboards in the Klang Valley. As the beaming Chief Executive Officer of GO Communications, Michael explains, "Spin is in, and we shamelessly endorse the fact that if fame is the name of the game, then GO for it!" Michael, who began his career as a journalist with the Melbourne Age in Australia, moved into public relations when he became PR manager for the Liberal Party during his secondment to Canberra to cover politics in 1975. One of his crowning achievements was with client Singapore Airlines, which involved the placing of a life-sized figure of a SIA flight attendant at Madame Tussaud's Waxworks in London. This was when he was running MDK (Michael De Kretser) Consultants Group, a PR outfit he founded 27 years ago which he later part sold to Batey Ads. They in turn sold their block to London-based WPP Group. In 2006, WPP Group, one of the world's largest communications groups, closed down the MDK network following the departure of Michael. But now with Michael smiling down on the Klang Valley, it looks like Christmas has come earlier this year!
