Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) in collaboration with Malaysian Institute of Architects will be showcasing Malaysian architectural expertise to the world at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale, Italy, from 29th August to 25th November, 2012. The event is the oldest and the most prestigious architecture exhibition.
According to MATRADE, the Malaysia Pavilion at this year’s exhibition will feature the theme VOICES. This is one of Matrade’s export promotion activities undertaken to brand Malaysia’s growing capabilities in design. Malaysian architects have been exporting their services overseas to countries like China, India, UAE, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, UK, Singapore and more. Through this renowned exhibition in Venice, Malaysia aspires to be recognized for its quality architectural designs by the international design community. Malaysia’s first debut in Venice Architecture Biennale in 2010 with the theme, RE/MIXED, consisted of 29 exhibits by 22 exhibitors, including two public universities. A number of participants from the 2010 edition are currently active overseas, securing opportunities in the area of design.
The participation by 21 Malaysian architects in this three month long exhibition is also in line with the Government’s economic transformation programme to promote the design and creative industry. With Malaysia having more than a thousand architects, we are now able to offer the finest offering to the world. The handiwork of Malaysian architects can be seen in iconic developments such as the Persian Gulf City Project Kish Island, Iran; Burj Al Alam - tallest residential Tower, Island City of Al Reem, Abu Dhabi; Al Barreq Tower in Business Bay, Dubai; Mother Theresa International Airport, Albania; Doha Airport Building, Qatar; Dai Phuoc Central Business District, Vietnam; J.W. Marriot Resort & Spa, Maldives; Kowloon Waterfront Master Plan, Hong Kong and the National Library, Singapore.
