The second Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards saw the Asia-Pacific region’s rapidly expanding blogging community arrive in full force to find out who would win the coveted Region’s Best Blog Award.

Over 500 bloggers from seven different countries converged anxiously at Putrajaya Marriott, with some of the biggest names in the blogosphere adding a touch of glitz and glamour to the night.

Anticipation ran high as the crowd waited for results in the wake of a staggering 10,000 nominations, with over 82,000 votes cast from the public for their favourite blogs.

The tremendous response to this landmark biennial award ceremony is in many ways testament to the growing popularity and influence held by the region’s blogging community.

Award winners came from all over; Malaysia’s Kenny Sia bagged the Best Micro-Blog Award, receiving his title with the usual dose of humour and composure. Also from Malaysia were top female fashion blog Cheeserland.com, which bagged Best Fashion Blog, and Beautifulnara.com, which won Best Entertainment Blog.

From Australia, five-man-foodie team Eatshowandtell.com took home the award for Most Original Blog Design amidst patriotic “Oi, Oi, Oi!” cheers from fellow Australians in the crowd.

The search for best blog on movies, comics, gaming and all things geeky saw Geekout.ph from the Philippines win Best Geek Blog Award, and Photoblog.hk from Hong Kong took home the Best Photography Blog award, in recognition of the stunning pictures on his blog.

Top awards of the night – Region’s Best Blog and Most Influential Blog – went to a very surprised and emotional Wendy Cheng, Singapore’s favourite pink-haired queen of girly decadence, who blogs at Xiaxue.blogspot.com.

Other award categories included Best Travel Blog, Best Parenting Blog, Best Food Blog, Best Lifestyle Blog and Hidden Gem.

In two years, the Nuffnang blogging community has topped one million, a huge jump from the 300,000 bloggers around during the inaugural 2009 Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards.

Hosted by local celebrity, DJ and R&B artist Liang together with Miss World Malaysia 2010, Nadia Heng, the black tie event featured top acts Reshmonu, James Baum and comedian Harith Iskander. Pole dancing troupe Viva Vertical also added some spice at intermissions, wowing audiences with their stunning pole acrobatics.

Bloggers were chauffeured to the Marriott in style courtesy of the Volkswagen Group Malaysia. In addition, exciting prizes were given away thanks to official sponsors and partners of the event including Olympus PEN Mini and PEN Lite cameras, two iPhone 4S smartphones sponsored by Celcom XPAX, and tickets to Osaka sponsored by AirAsia X. Other sponsors of the night included Tiger Beer Malaysia and the Marriott Putrajaya.

After a night full of excitement, celebrations spilled over to the official after-party and finally culminated at Zouk Club KL.
