After 18 teams in the 2011 Young Lotus Workshop completed their 24-hour challenge inspired by Pepsi, the judges gave the award to Team Pakistan.
But as a result of a popular vote among delegates, Malaysia represented by Hock Liang (Grey) and Bee Nee (McCann) swept the People's Choice' winner in the category!
Today at ADFEST in Phuket, four shortlisted teams presented their work to a live audience. The audience voted on the 'People's Choice' winner, who received a trophy at tonight's Awards Presentation alongside the overall Young Lotus winner as selected by TBWA\Asia Pacific. Apart from being crowned the region's top young creative team, this year's Young Lotus champions will see their entry fast-tracked to become a potential finalist in TBWA's The Very Short, Very Cheap Film Festival. They also receive a $5,000 Refresh Yourself/Refresh The World grant, a trophy and a trip to this year's Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. They'll also receive the adulation of creative greats such as Lee Clow and John Hunt.
So there you have it - a Professional Choice and a Popular Choice.
Apparently John Merrifield, this year’s Chairman of the Young Lotus Workshop, who is Creative-At-Large at TBWA\Asia Pacific in Singapore was rumoured to have laid a bet that the popular choice would match the judges' choice.
Well, John lost. And the festival is all the better for it!
